Globe Mastr (“we”, “us”) operates the website globemastr.com and the Globe Mastr geography learning game (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, password (stored in hashed form), optional avatar, self-reported geography level, and optional email-reminder preference.
Google Sign-In. If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from Google (such as your name, email address, and profile picture) as permitted by your Google account settings. We use this only to create and maintain your Globe Mastr account.
Game and learning data. We store progress related to your use of the Service, including learning-path completion, scores, accuracy, mastery, XP, daily quests, streaks, leaderboards, and landmark unlocks when you are signed in.
Feedback and analytics. If you submit the optional daily-goal survey or use learning-path analytics features, we may store your responses and lesson attempt data linked to your account. Anonymous visitors may receive a random guest identifier stored in browser local storage for survey submissions only.
Local storage on your device. The Service stores preferences and cached progress in your browser (for example theme, game state, and practice timers) so the app works smoothly. You can clear this data through your browser settings.
Session cookies. When you sign in, we use essential cookies to keep you logged in and protect your account.
Server logs. Our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and request time for security and reliability.
How we use information
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service
- Save your progress and sync it across devices when you are signed in
- Send optional daily reminder emails if you opt in
- Send password-reset emails when you request them
- Display leaderboards and admin analytics
- Protect the Service against abuse and troubleshoot issues
Third-party services
We use trusted third parties to run parts of the Service, including:
- Google — Sign in with Google (subject to Google’s Privacy Policy)
- Wikimedia — landmark photos and descriptions shown in the app
- Font and map libraries — Google Fonts, MapLibre, and related CDNs to load UI assets
- Hosting — cloud infrastructure that stores our database and serves the site
These providers process data only as needed to deliver their part of the Service.
How long we keep data
We keep account and game data while your account is active. You may delete learning progress, game history, or your entire account from in-app settings. We may retain limited backup or log data for a short period for security and legal compliance.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Play without an account (progress may not sync across devices)
- Update your profile, password, and reminder settings in Settings
- Delete stored progress or your account in Settings → Danger zone
- Clear browser local storage at any time
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including HTTPS in production, hashed passwords, and http-only session cookies. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
International users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from other regions, your information may be processed in the U.S.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date above.
